Volunteer
Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the Fort Morgan Humane Society. We have numerous opportunities for adults and youth to help out at the shelter. Training and volunteer hours are determined by the needs of particular programs.
Adults may volunteer with their children - children must be age 8 and older
Following is a list of all of our adult volunteer programs:
Volunteer Opportunities
Administrative Assistant: Assist administrative staff with data entry and other clerical tasks. Hours are arranged with the administrative staff member.
Animal Care Assistant Dogs: Assist kennel staff with cleaning and restocking kennel areas and feeding animals available for adoption. Hours available are seven days a week, 8:00am - 1pm and 4-6 pm.
Animal Care Assistant Cats: Assist with cleaning kennels and socializing the kittens and cats in the cat dormitory. Days and hours are arranged with staff.
Dog TLC: Overall in this position you will walk, and socialize our dogs on the adoption floor at FMHS. Hours generally are 6 days a week: Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. You will need to attend a 2 hour Dog TLC training session before interacting with the dogs.
Donation Pick-up: Pick up and deliver to FMHS various donations of food and other items. Also we have donation cans set up at local businesses and need Volunteers to collect the money from the cans on a monthly basis.
Fund Raising Events: Throughout the year FMHS has booths at local events and festivals. We need Volunteers to be our ambassadors; to answer questions about FMHS, promote our adoptable animals.
Foster Care: Provide temporary home care for animals that are injured or too young to be adopted. FMHS will provide all food and medical supplies. Animals are then placed in adoptive homes by FMHS staff.
Front Desk/Adoption Assistant: Assist the front desk staff by greeting visitors and answering basic questions about FMHS. Under this category we include customer service specialist, telephone receptionist, and information specialist.
Maintenance Assistant: Assist with gardening, landscaping, painting, carpentry, plumbing and electrical projects at the FMHS facilities.
Pet Grooming: Grooming of animals in our adoption kennels.. TLC Training is a pre-requisite.
Photographer/Videographer: Assist the Development Department by taking photos and/or videos of special events/FMHS activities.
Thrift Store: Volunteer sorting, pricing, or merchandising and help pick up donated items from individual homes. Hours are Monday – Friday 11:00 am to 5:00 pm and Saturday 10 am to 5 pm Volunteer Hours are arranged through the Thrift Store Manager. The Thrift Store is one of the major fundraisers for FMHS operations.
Advanced Volunteer Opportunities
These are positions that require FMHS Volunteer experience before applying:
Canine Coach: This is an extension of the Dog TLC program. Volunteers will be assigned specific shelter dogs to train in order to improve their "adoptability." You must have adequate and ample experience volunteering here at the shelter before you can enter the Canine Coach program.
Spay/Neuter Clinic: Assist with animals before and after surgery, cleaning and repacking instruments and helping with other tasks in the FHS Spay/Neuter Clinic.
